Dr. Schmidt employs the anterior approach whenever possible for hip replacement. For many patients the anterior approach to hip replacement has been associated with faster recovery times, less pain and bleeding, and smaller incisions than traditional posterior approach surgical techniques. The anterior and posterior approaches have advantages and disadvantages for different patients and both produce excellent results. Dr. Schmidt is an expert in both approaches and was an early adopter of the anterior approach. In fact, he has been invited to teach courses on the technique at meetings and seminars throughout the country.
